I wish I was a poison dart frog
so I may sit on a tiny leaf as rain softly falls around me. To climb a moss-covered tree, feeling the slight give from the moist organism with every step I take. To watch droplets loll down as they gain enough weight from the surrounding moisture. To feel safe since all potential predators are warded off by my neon warning.
I wish I was a poison dart frog
because existence as a human on this wretched planet, where I am complicit to genocide merely by paying taxes, is an unbearable burden. My personal choices are all weighed by a global morality and no matter how righteous I aim to be, the wickedness by proxy will always win. Greed, wealth, and power are the only way to survive, and my tiny victories and joys will not be enough to save me when reckoning comes.
