I love to hear my friend’s voices. It brings me such joy and delight to hear their inflections, their emotions, the swell of laughter as it bubbles up, the wistfulness or derision when discussing others.
Now that I live overseas, such immense time can go by between calls. Lives become so wrapped up in the day-to-day, penciling in one another can feel like an immense burden.
I ache for the days when my friends and I would talk on the phone for hours, about everything and nothing. Our dreams, anxieties, and random thoughts.
Today, I was fortunate enough to briefly catch up with two friends over the phone, along with a few loved ones over text, and my heart feels full. I need to remember that anytime I am feeling pressed, I have the ability to reach out and make a connection to a loved one.
