Book Review: Men Without Women

Published by

Author: Haruki Murakami

Completed: early March 2024

Genre: Short Story Fiction

Synopsis: A collection of short stories about men that have lost the women in their lives

Story Summary: Several tales of varying experiences that men have where they interact with different women in their lives; some, from previous experiences, some in the recent past, all lost to the narrators now.

My feelings about the book: I am writing this review well after I have read the book, so I am vague on the details. I do recall enjoying Murakami’s writing style and the way the tales of each meander through the experiences the men have. He takes his time to share the details, and in that, the tales feel rich. The way women are depicted as not quite people, but moments that men experience, left a lot to be desired.

Rating: 4 out of 5.

Favorite Moments:

  • Dreamy prose

Least Favorite Moments:

  • Women depicted as the root of pain
